「最重要的不是去測量某些東西，而是試著將目光放在這些事物身上。」


2013年，米蘭一間藝廊以《啟示錄》為題進行策展，受邀參展的工藤步以經文中，神要求約翰去「測量神的聖所、祭壇，和在那裡禮拜的人」為起點，思考測量和信仰的關係，決定透過事物關照己身的想法，進行內容創作。

創作初期，工藤步在構思好大部分的文字後著手進行繪製，圖文都完成後，才字斟句酌地從相似詞彙中，找出期望呈現的義大利文語境，自己將日文翻譯成義大利文。展覽時，由於工藤步希望觀眾能平等地觀看所有作品，而沒有將畫作放入畫框，直接把寫有日語和意大利語的作品展示於木板上。原本考慮搭配展覽製作圖錄，最終卻成了第一版《無法測量的事物》，而後經歷四次自費發行，於2018年受青幻舎邀請出版。

《無法測量的事物》以圖文呈現 49 件我們平時可能未曾注意到的、無法測量的事物。書中的內容隨著讀者自身的狀況和閱讀時機不同，會呈現出不同的感受，讀者可以藉由閱讀此書，與自己展開心靈對話。

工藤步
1980 年出生於岡山縣，2002 年起求學並移居義大利，現在是一位母親。2011 年以描繪世界各國為題材的作品《Giromondo di Ayumi（あゆみ的世界一周）》獲得了2011/2012 年米蘭的「Premio San Fedele」獎第二名。2013 年發表了《無法測量的事物》，初版即告售罄。目前正持續創作及進行展覽活動。
