Yellow Nose Studio Solo Exhibition


1840年的時候，德國教育家福祿貝爾（Friedrich Froebel）替孩⼦創造了第⼀所Kindergarten（幼兒園），從字面上來看，可譯為「兒童的花園」；如同植物⽣⻑在花園裡⼀般，讓孩⼦受到⾃然的滋養，在其中自發地探索、遊玩、創造，自由地工作（Frei-Arbeit）。 將Kindergartenㄧ字去掉K，來自柏林的雙人組合 Yellow Nose Studio 這次創造了⾃⼰的花園 —— INDERGARTEN。

INDERGARTEN，溯其精神，將圖⾯中的基本幾何（圓、正⽅形、⻑⽅形）⽴體化為⽊材的基底形狀，如同每個人年幼時期的自己，玩積木一般，⾃由⽽精準地組合、排列、堆疊，構成⼗件作品。

這次也重新詮釋了 N-05 石頭花瓶系列（stone vase series），該系列取材⾃旅⾏的經驗，途中撿拾⽽來的⽯頭、拿起筆恣意塗鴉的心情，他們捨棄具象改以簡化的抽象形式，運用手勢讓線條在陶土上留下不同的材質觸感。透過雙手去碰觸、塗線，N05 ⽯頭花瓶系列如同花園中遊玩的擬態。一路上撿拾的石頭留下了沿途的時光，也想邀請每個人，來這座花園坐坐，在椅子與花瓶之中找到自由與童心。
 

Ten variations on three wooden shapes (a circle, a square, and a rectangle) comprise Yellow Nose Studio’s INDERGARTEN series. True to the spirit of simplification, Yellow Nose Studio has dropped the ‘K’ from the word ‘Kindergarten’ to invite viewers into a space of possibility guided by playfulness and curiosity.

The childhood imagination serves as the exhibition’s fertile ground, through which new geometries and architectural structures emerge from gestures like the stacking of blocks. Such processes of creation nod to the philosophy of Friedrich Froebel, who in 1840 established the first Kindergarten for young children – a term that literally translates as a ‘children’s garden’, denoting a piece of land offering opportunities for exploration and observation in harmony with nature.

As a landscape intended to bridge the conceptual and the tangible, INDERGARTEN reinterprets this notion with a collection of N05 stone vases. Returning to the ritual of picking up a pen and scribbling on stones collected during their travels, Hsin-Ying Ho and Kai-Ming Tung have replaced figurative forms with abstract ones, and applied hand gestures to imprint the clay with diverse textures. Between wonder and experimentation, originality and repetition, new ideas begin to emerge.

Yellow Nose is a Berlin-based studio founded in 2017 by Hsin-Ying Ho and Kai-Ming Tung—a Taiwanese duo with backgrounds in architecture. The pair are constantly on a quest to find the perfect balance within space through handmade objects. Following a desire to create using raw materials in unforeseen ways, they craft with the organic to present items that are usually inorganic, display their logic through emotional processes, and ultimately propel their craft forward through waves of industrial design. Yellow Nose Studio endeavours to represent slow living through living tools for savouring the spaces we live in and walk through from day to day.
