身兼攝影家與登山者兩個身份，石川直樹（Naoki Ishikawa）與日本獨立出版社TOO MUCH合作，紀錄了他在2011年至2018年間攀登世界最高峰的精彩過程。這本書收錄了多達300張照片，並包含了他遠征到世界第三高峰干城章嘉峰（Kanchenjunga）以及位於尼泊爾，人稱「喜馬拉雅明珠」的阿瑪達布拉姆峰（Ama Dablam）的近期紀錄。

登頂的工作既緩慢又困難，不僅得具備充分的體能鍛鍊，要成功地爬上這些山脈，還需要理清混亂的尼泊爾當地政治文化、亞洲地緣政治，同時對抗不可預測的天氣、持續發展的攀登技術，以及過程中伴隨而生的恐懼與懷疑。

大部分的我們可能一生中從未有機會攀上喜馬拉雅山，石川直樹的圖像和文字帶領我們前往一個人跡罕至的地方，一個充滿極限的場域，我們漫步在溫帶森林、河流、草原和冰川之間，攀登不可能的岩石和冰層，到達地球的頂端。

高聳於我們的城市之上，是一處純然壯闊而恣意張揚的風景，人類在此並不主宰一切；透過他的鏡頭，我們因而能夠正面朝向極地，深刻體驗一個人所能經歷的渺小經驗。
