Description

The Mediterranean Motorway, or AP-7, is the main route that connects all road traffic along Spain’s Mediterranean coast, stretching from Algeciras to France. Its first section, inaugurated in 1969, was widely featured in Francoist development propaganda as a symbol of progress and the starting point of Spanish consumer society. Today, the imagery surrounding this road is far removed from the optimistic fascination of the 1970s, and the landscapes and architectures along the way evoke a sense of strangeness. This archival and research project seeks to look beyond nostalgia in the narrative of progress and tourism in our country.
