Crass Goods IV
Err (cherry on top)
by Lulu Lin

Crass Goods is a two-part publication series built around contrast: a vibration between impulse and refinement, between what is immediate and what is composed. It moves between taking important things lightly, and taking seemingly trivial things with unexpected seriousness.

The publication is divided into two sections, “Crass” and “Goods.”

“Crass” holds what is unfiltered and in-process. It is more direct, more personal, and closer to emotional moments that have not yet settled into form. “Goods” is more composed. It gathers and organizes these experiences into something prepared and communicable, something offered outward.

The fifth issue began with an invitation to a solo exhibition. Over time, it grew into an important companion to that exhibition. What began as an exploration of meaningful acts of kindness slowly turned into a conversation with myself about care, emotion, and the quiet ways I move through everyday life. In this issue, “err (cherry on top),” the “Goods” section presents recipes collected through moments of craving comfort food. The “Crass” section contains full-bleed, colorful drawings that carry the emotional conditions in which these moments first appeared. Although these images have been retouched, they remain connected to those undefined states of feeling.

The two sections are linked through emotional experience rather than chronology or clarity. Together, they trace how something unstable can shift into something shareable without losing its original intensity.

*The title “err” comes from the word “cherry.” I was choosing between “err” and “cry,” and “err” stayed because it felt more open, a little more humorous, and less fixed. It also carries a sense of wandering or slipping, which felt closer to how this work moves. “Cherry on Top” felt too long and not visually strong enough to work as a logo or title mark, so it was reduced to “err.”
