Description

Framing the project
by Angelo Mangiarotti / Giorgio Casali

The volume Angelo Mangiarotti / Giorgio Casali. Framing the project, retraces Mangiarotti’s work through the photographs from the Casali archive and in dialogue with the contemporary world.

By following the traces of the architect and designer’s work and analyzing it from previously unexplored perspectives, the book delves into two main aspects: the rich photographic corpus of Giorgio Casali, a key figure in 20th-century architecture and design, and a series of interviews with contemporary designers, architects, photographers, and scholars who either knew Mangiarotti during his long career or regard him as a fundamental point of reference.Among the contributors are Fulvio Irace, Paolo Ulian, Franz Graf, Martino Gamper, Konstantin Grcic, Giulio Iacchetti, Fumihiko Maki. Each of these interviews adds a piece to the mosaic of a multifaceted and complex personality.

The archival images document a vast visual heritage that, in many cases, offers intriguing insights into Mangiarotti’s cultural references, while at other times it opens up unexpected views into unique contexts guiding the reader along themes and trajectories recurrent in Casali’s collaborative work with Mangiarotti. The volume is further enriched by a previously unpublished interview with Angelo Mangiarotti and critical texts by Beppe Finessi and Angelo Maggi.
