Description

《Practice 01》、《Practice 02》
by Kazuhei Kimura

“Practice” is a series of ongoing publications with a fixed book format—size, design, page count, etc.—based on the keyword “practice.” I aim to publish one to two books per year, for a total of 10 books.

As the long-running series “counterpoint” came to an end, I was looking for a lighter-footed approach as a reaction to having been faced with a single subject for so long.

Prioritize spontaneous ideas, without thinking about the consequences, release them to the public before their freshness fades, and then think about the work.
With this in mind, I began working on the irregularly published series “Practice.”

The inspiration for the first installment, “Cakey Makeup,” came from a line I came across in an instruction book when I was just starting to learn printmaking.
“Use burn and dodge only as a subtle flavor. Heavy makeup that’s obvious at a glance is a no-no.”

The second installment, “The Deadstock Hotel,” is comprised of photographs of a hotel in my hometown of Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture, which was built approximately 30 years ago with a huge budget, but construction was halted midway through and has remained in the same state ever since.
