Description

TICKETS
by JI UK KIM

"Tickets take you somewhere, without that somewhere necessarily being a holiday. Where you go and why remains open.
It isn't too cute, nor is it too programmatic. The word also has a pleasing rhythm-something percussive in its T-, K-, and S-sounds. The name could refer both to the tickets that took you somewhere to photograph, and to the photos as tickets themselves, a window to a place to be looked at. The directionality inherent in both photography (you're allowed to see this, but not what surrounds it) and tickets (they grant access to one specific thing or event) makes the word resonate asa title for a photo book."

Unlike the photos I'm commissioned to take, these are the ones I commissioned myself to make - and this investment in my own 'vision,' if you will, feels essential to me, a part of my photography worth preserving within the pages of a book.
