這是一個香港人在愛爾蘭的故事，也是一個香港人寫的愛爾蘭故事。

《時差》是郭梓祺首次非結集舊文而成的書，內容由兩條線索穿起。一條線索寫愛爾蘭文化和歷史，由反抗英國殖民主義開始，寫到文化復興運動、自治運動、獨立戰、內戰及其餘波，觸及不同時代作家的取態。數百年爭取自治或獨立的經歷裡，出現過或文或武、或剛或柔的各種方法，失敗的佔多數，但可能不必只看成敗。

另一條線索是郭梓祺一年來在愛爾蘭修讀愛爾蘭文學的個人經歷。書本知識外，更多是在愛爾蘭各地的遊歷，和有幸遇見的各色人物，包括有緣重遇並同住的前英文系老師夫婦、分別出生在北愛和愛爾蘭共和國的同學、關心同志議題的加泰隆尼亞人、博學而富喜劇感的希臘人、對種族歧視極為敏感的美國人、熟讀Beckett的活潑英國人等等，充滿思想碰撞，常在歷史與現實之間穿梭。

《時差》在回港後寫成，也因寫作過程製造了時差，延續對愛爾蘭種種的學習，變成書中這百多個片段，兩線交錯，描畫出愛爾蘭的精神風景。

時差是文學的，故事裡頭有自己的時間，跟物理時間或遠或近，輕快或沉重，壓縮或膨脹，再跟當下互相對照。希望這書能為讀者帶來始料不及的時空體驗。
