YIN-YANG
by Zhou Shuoying
Zhou Shuoying’s YIN-YANG is a long-term still life series launched in 2017 and still in progress.
Employing cheap everyday objects—vegetables, flowers, street foods, and fruits—Zhou accumulates and distils into her unique Oriental and reserved visual language. The works of her observation out of instinct examine and question the issues of sex and gender.
Simple and ordinary, dazing and relaxed, yet a new kind of complete and absolute daily nakedness.
Shuoying Zhou was born in 1995 and currently lives and works in Shanghai. She received her BA degree in Photography and Production at Beijing Film Academy in 2017. In 2018 she established ING-WAY Studio.
Currently, her personal works focus on conceptual art creations inspired by daily objects and events, using photography as her main medium to explore the existence of “gender”, while also displaying visual languages of Oriental aesthetics. Her commercial works are creativity-oriented, as she plans and photographs for client brands impressive creative works and projects. More recently, she has collaborated with brands and magazines such as Coca-Cola China, NIKE, Shanghai Kaishan Liquor Ltd., and “VISION” magazine.
